The Golden Dragon Dance
To the chinese beliefs, the Golden Dragon symbolises supernatural power, goodness, fertility, vigilance and dignity. It also represents the emblem of the imperial authority of the chinese dynasties. The image of the Golden Dragon is used by the chinese emperors for their robes, thrones and furnishing for more than two thousand years. The pearl of the dragon represents the sun and wisdom.

The year of the dragon comes one in every twelve years. The length of this Golden Dragon is 88 feet and it reflects the golden dragon of the year 1988. The figures 88 means double prosperity and happiness.

This Golden Dragon belongs to Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak formerly known as Nanyang Pugilistic Arts and Physical Culture Association. It was made by the Instructor-in-Chief of the Federation, Prof. Dr. Song Swee Hee with the assistance of his wushu students, aiming at promoting Dragon Dance as one of the cultural and entertainment events for all Malaysia.
The symbolic Dragon’s Eye-Dotting Ceremony of this Golden Dragon was held at the Tua Pek Kong’s Temple in Tunku Abdul Rahman Road, Kuching of the auspicious day of September 18, 1988 which is the Eighth day of Eighth month of the Chinese Calendar.
The golden dragon troupe was invited to give its dance performances at several prestigious events after its symbolic “dragon’s eye-dotting” ceremony.

The performance has drew rounds of applause for its delightful stage performance from both local and foreign dignitaries and was Telecast Live Nationwide by RTM networks 1 & 2.
